Guide

Move the shed, or buy a new one?

Move it when the floor and the roof are sound and the trip is short. A solid 10×12 that only needs to cross a yard, or go a few miles, is often cheaper to relocate than to replace. Buy new when the floor is soft, the roof has been leaking for years, or the haul is long enough that the truck costs more than another building.

A move is the better spend when

  • The frame, floor, and roof are dry and square.
  • The building is a size or a layout you would actually order again.
  • The new spot is on the same property, or close enough that the haul is a few hours, not a two-day permit trip.
  • The path is possible: a gate, a slope, and overhead clearance a trailer can use.

A new shed is the better spend when

  • You can push a screwdriver into the floor joists.
  • The move needs a crane, a police escort, or a rebuild at the far end.
  • The HOA or the new yard wants a different size than the one you have.
  • You are attached to the idea of the shed more than to this particular building.

Get the move range first if you are unsure. A hauler’s price next to a dealer’s price is an easy comparison. Shed Movers does not sell sheds and does not take a cut of a new building. If you decide to buy, you deal with the dealer directly.
